Indie

(mobile app concept)

Designed to streamline a songwriter's creative process—Indie replaces Voice Memos and Notes with an all-encompassing mobile app for songwriting and exporting demos.

Inspired by my experience as a musician and created for my Senior Capstone in college, Indie is a case study on demonstrating the importance of UX research and ethnography in the design process. The outcome: a tailored mobile app and a detailed interactive prototype.

Challenge
Almost every songwriter I know uses their smartphone to capture their ideas quickly. The most common apps are Notes and Voice Memos. While wonderful, these apps aren't tailored for a musician's creative process—lyrics and recordings aren't linked, files can become disorganized with multiple takes, and there isn't an easy way to share with your collaborators. The challenge is to design a mobile app that simplifies these processes, enhancing creative flow and collaboration.

Approach
Using the 10-step Human-computer Interaction (HCI) design process, I interviewed 7 musicians from various genres, informing the app's feature set and prototypes. The outcome, a design that was continuously tailored to my musical stakeholders.
